Afternoon Men's

Curling club hosts first ever Mixed Stick Bonspiel

By Bob Gyoerick of the Carman Valley Leader February 6th, 2009:

The Carman Men's afternoon curlers had their first ever mixed stick bonspiel on Jan. 31-Feb 1st with 13 teams entered.

The mixed stick bonspiel was for curlers who, for various reasons, cannot throw the rock from the hack in the traditional manner. Instead they use a stick to deliver the rock.

The stick bonspiel had its own set of rules.

There are only two members on each team with one at each end of the ice.

Each curler throws six rocks per end then his teamate throws them back .

There is no sweeping until the rock crosses the near hog line. And only six ends in each match.

Looking for feedback

Since it was the first ever mixed stick bonspiel, the Men's Afternoon club is asking for feed back from the curlers who participated in the event. The club wants to know what they liked

about the event and how it can be improved. they would also like to hear from anyone who may be interested in taking  part in a stick bonspiel in the future.

Winning team

The team of Charlie McCullough and Edwin Pritchard won the bonspiel.

But they had all they could handle when they came up against the dynamic duo of Barrie Sanders and yours truly, Bob Gyoerick, in their final game.
